Board of Directors

Chairperson –  Janne Walgemoet, based in The Netherlands – chair@gmi-eu.org

Meet Janne:

I grew up in the village of Ruurlo, in the eastern Netherlands. During my law studies, I moved to Nijmegen, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Radboud University. I specialized in Dutch law, focusing on criminal law. As part of my studies, I spent a semester at National Taiwan University and completed internships at Adelmeyer Hoyng Advocaten in Maastricht and the Dutch Public Prosecution Service.

After graduating, I took time to explore my career path. Having worked part-time for my parents’ company, Investigation & Recovery Service. During this time I visited my first GMI meeting. I soon joined the company full-time after my studies and quickly realized that this was the right fit for me.

Now, after two years, I am fully immersed in the business, specializing in investigations and the recovery of stolen or missing assets—including boats, cars, bicycles, and heavy machinery. In addition to my role at the company, I am also an active board member of both GMI and IAATI.

Board Member  Viktor Eklöf, based in Sweden

Meet Viktor:

Born and raised in Stockholm, I have always had a passion for traveling on water. This interest led me to pursue a vocational degree in operating passenger traffic in the Stockholm archipelago.

Shortly after completing my maritime education, I applied to the Swedish Police Academy and served as a police officer for 15 years, working in various roles. During my time on the force, I worked in the Stockholm metro, accompanied different football teams to manage hooligan-related issues, and eventually joined the Swedish Maritime Police.

At the Swedish Maritime Police, we frequently collaborated with Larmtjänst in our investigative work. I was always impressed by Larmtjänst’s ability to locate engines and boats that were untraceable through police systems.

Martin Åberg left the Swedish Maritime Police to join Larmtjänst, and Carina Birking, his successor, retired in 2020, the organization began searching for a replacement. That’s when I felt it was the right time to apply.

Larmtjänst collaborates with all insurance companies in Sweden to provide support in investigations and liaise with government agencies. Both Martin and Carina have been active in GMI, which adds an exciting dimension to the role, offering a fantastic network of contacts.
